The Importance of Travel
New York City
It can be difficult to pull away from the computer screen. To pack up, and for a time, leave the comfort of the cozy design studio. But this exercise in exploring is one that we hold in high regard as it forces us to keep adjusting our view and expand our minds.
“Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things – air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky – all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.” – Cesare Pavese
As a creative team it is critical that we invest in new experiences, people and places. No matter how inconvenient, exhausting, or unattainable a certain trip may feel we have found that visiting different places has always benefited us in immeasurable ways. Chance encounters, exotic meals, museum visits, or conversations with people from different backgrounds takes us out of our norm…keeping us alert, curious and growing.
No matter how insignificant certain travel moments may seem, a simple walk down a strange street could spark the next creative breakthrough. Our last trip as a team was to New York, a place that exhausted us as quickly as she excited. Below is a look at our visit to the city that never sleeps. NYC is a place that is always pushing people to their limits, for better or worse…a place that seems especially extraordinary this time of year.
Whether we were enjoying grilled sticky buns and Italian wine over candlelight with clients, climbing to a tree house in central park, or navigating the breathtaking collection at the Museum of Modern Art, we were delighted by the energy of the grand city, and the people who have made the electric beehive their home.
